ECDSD

The ECDSD software can be used to convert music playlists to wav and copy them to an SD card in the required structure needed by the SD-transport module. It will also be possible to print a catalog of each SD card's content including artwork(ToDo). You will only need your computer to convert and copy the music from your CD's onto the SD cards, and to print catalogs. The (I)SD-player is absolutely quiet. With printed catalogs and music on the SD cards you can listen to the music in absolute silence...

For both Windows and Apple OSX the ECDSD software will support iTunes playlist in wav, aiff and m4a lossless 44.1/16 formats.

For Linux we will try to support Rhytmbox playlists in wav, aiff and flac lossless formats.

The ECDSD software just uses the external xml files of iTunes and Rhytmbox to copy and convert the playlist music to an SD card.

It's up to you to choose the lossless format used in iTunes or Rhytmbox. To save space on your HD you could choose m4a (Apple Lossless) in iTunes and flac in Rhytmbox. When copying to the SD card the music is converted to wav, with lossless compression (m4a/flac) you don't loose any data (think of it as a zipped wav file) but it will need more processor power to convert.

You could also choose wav or aif in iTunes and Rhytmbox, they both contain the same raw audio data, just the "wrapping" is a little different. You should use aif if you want to add album art and tags to your tracks, for wav you can't add artwork or tags in iTunes and Rhytmbox.

ECDSD is built with the LGPL version of the Qt SDK. The ECDSD software will therefore be free/opensource. A beta version for Apple OSX/Windows and source code will be available soon.
